My Embroidery "Tin"

When I take my embroidery to Sit and Sew, I get some good natured teasing from some of the ladies about the condition of my floss in the old candy tin that I put it in. I must admit it does look pretty messy and just a plain squirrel's nest in comparison to some of the neat and very well organized storage of some of the other embroiderers. I will try and mend my ways - and I have made a small start. They gave me an extra set of little cardboard thingies that you can wind the floss on and keep it from tangling. If you look closely at the picture you can see I have wound

six so far - one is in the tin - and I have written the number of the color on each little card, so that is a small step towards improving my floss storage and changing my messy ways. It may take a while, but I will keep striving to clean up my tin. However, I love it when you tease or are being teased and have good giggles over things like that - so I'll probably work at it slowly!

Button, Button

Today was our monthly Sit and Sew day held on the third Tuesday of each month. About 8 or 9

of us worked on the little giveaway cards for the quilt show at the end of April. We had scheduled this project for the guild meeting last week, but there was a "snow night" and guild was cancelled. Cute little cards needed buttons so we did it this morning. Eight or nine of us sat at a round table and the task was done in just about an hour. By the time we left the glue was all dried and ready to come back with me. Lots of cards and lots of buttons.

Going to Sit and Sew After While

Today is our guild's day out to get together do some sewing and gabbing and just enjoying a day out. This is especially welcome at this time of year. I, for one, pretty much don't leave the house as much when it's cold or the weather is bad. Usually wait and combine chores so that I can do it all in one trip. Very little of running to fabric store just because or going to the mall "just to look around". Of course, part of it is that I'm older and shopping (except quilt related) is not the fun it used to be. And shopping for groceries is the pits! The good thing is that I enjoy all the things that I do here at home and time just flies by.

So, I enjoy Sit and Sew and this is what I am taking along today. The two little wallhangings will get buttons sewn on after I finish sewing down the binding on the two sides of each of them. I always do my bindings in four pieces instead of one big long one. That is how I have always done it but not many quilters do it that way. There are 63 buttons on each piece so that is a heckuva lot of buttons. What I don't get done by hand I will do on the machine later.

Q2 Sit and Sew Day

Yesterday was our monthly day to gather at Chapel Lane Presbyterian Church and "Sit and Sew". Pictured above is Nancy, our new president for this year. Behind here is Marsha, a long time member of Q2, both of whom have chosen to bring along embroidery projects to work on.

Here is Deb looking very pretty and ironing fabric to use in a beautiful quilt she is making in the bargello pattern.

The ironing board is a popular place - the other Carol in the group is pressing some blocks for her wallhanging.

Free fabric!! Caroline brought along a pile of fabric for anyone who wished to come take what they wanted. What a great idea! I found some that I can put to use in Birds of a Feather - and I think one day I will bring along fabric to share, also.

Linda makes the most gorgeous paper pieced quilts - they are so intricate and awesome. She also designs them on her quilt computer program.

There has been a good turnout for this third Tuesday of the month gathering and we urge you to come join us for a day or part of a day with some very nice gals. You can bring your lunch or get take out, which some of the members do. Machines are welcome, as you can see, and this is also a good time for finishing the binding on quilts or numerous other hand projects. Many of us are doing embroidery. Even if you just want to sit and chat, that is fine, too.
